9 injured in Rongo accident after matatu hits tractor

Nine people were injured in a Rongo accident after a matatu and a tractor collided at Matafari area on Friday evening.

The accident occurred on the Rongo-Awendo highway.

The victims were rushed to various hospitals in Migori County and the neighbouring Kisii County .

Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui said the matatu which was heading towards Rongo from Migori hit the cane tractor which was coming from the opposite direction.

He said one passenger who was seriously injured was rushed to Kisii Level Five Hospital while five others were taken to Migori Level Four Hospital.

Three other victims were admitted to Rongo Sub County Hospital but are likely to be transferred to Migori Level Four Hospital for further treatment.

The OCPD said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Mr. Kirui also cautioned road users warning them to adhere to traffic regulations to reduce the number of accidents.
