9,144 frontline workers vaccinated as COVID-19 caseload hits 112,805

9,144 frontline workers have been vaccinated in 40 counties since the exercise was launched, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

He said county distribution of the vaccination program so far is as follows: Nairobi 2,020, Uasin Gishu 1,304, Kisumu 764, Nakuru 562, Kiambu 379, Trans Nzoia 335 and Mombasa 332, Narok 277, Kisii 250, Kajiado 241, Laikipia 235, Elgeyo Marakwet 211, Nandi 175.

Number of health workers vaccinated in Migori are 171, Meru 155, Tharaka Nithi 149, Machakos Kirinyaga 112, Baringo 106, Makueni 104, Kericho 83, Homabay 82, Wajr 67, Mandera 66, Tana River 66, Siaya 62, Busia 61, Taita Taveta Garissa 28, Samburu 26,Turkana 24, Isiolo 20, Murang’a 20, Nyandarua 18 and Kakamega 2.

On Saturday, 870 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 6,309 tested in the last 24 hours. According to the Health Ministry, Kenya’s caseload is now at 112,805 with cumulative tests so far conducted at 1,364,099.

From the cases 792 are Kenyans while 78 are foreigners. 506 are males and 364 are females. The youngest is a three-month- old infant while the oldest is 99 years.

117 patients have recovered from the disease: 75 are from various health facilities, while 42 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care. Total recoveries now stand at 88,326.

Seven patients have however succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,908.  A total of 650 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,929 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

98 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen. 13 patients are on observation.

Another 25 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 23 of them in the general wards and 2 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of county distribution of the new cases, Nairobi reported 431, Nakuru 120, Kiambu 9S, Machakos 53, Turkana 29, Kajiado 26, Mombasa 15, Kisumu 10, Bungoma 9, Meru 9, Isiolo 8, Embu 6, Kilifi 6, Murang’a 5, Nyandarua 5, Trans Nzoia 5, Laikipia 4, Nyeri 4, Uasin Gishu 3, Vihiga 3, Baringo 2, Kericho 2, Kitui 2, Mandera 2, Nandi 2, Narok 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Garissa 1, Kakamega 1, Kirinyaga 1, Kisii 1, Siaya 1, Taita Taveta 1, Tana River 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.

In terms of sub county distribution, the 431 cases in Nairobi are from Westlands (56), Dagoretti North Kibra (38), Kamukunji and Ruaraka (24) cases each, Embakasi West (22), Embakasi Central (21), Embakasi South (20), Mathare and Starehe (19) cases each, Kasarani (18), Roysambu (15), Embakasi East (14), Dagoretti South (12) and Embakasi North (10).

In Nakuru the 120 cases are from Molo (48), Nakuru East (32), Nakuru We2 (14), Rongai (7), Naivasha (6), Nakuru North (5), Gilgil and Njoro (3) cases each, Kuresoi North (2).

In Kiambu the 95 cases are from Thika (41), Githunguri and Ruiru (12) cases each, Kiambu Town (8), Juja, Kikuyu and Limuru (4) cases each, Kabete, Kiambaa and Lari (3) cases each, Gatundu South (1).

In Machakos the 53 cases are from Machakos Town (17), Matungulu (16), Athi River Kangundo and I’ñwaIa (4) cases each. In Turkana all the 29 cases are from Turkana West.

In Kajiado the 26 cases are from Kajiado East (11), Kajiado North (8), Kajiado Central (7). In Mombasa the 15 cases are from Mvita and Nyali (4) cases each, Changamwe, Jomvu, and Likoni (2) cases each, Kisauni (1). In Kisumu the 10 cases are from Kisumu Central (6), Kisumu East (3) and Kisumu West (1).

In Bungoma the 9 cases are from Kanduyi (7), Kabuchai and Sirisia (1) case each. In Meru the 9 cases are from Imenti South (4), Imenti North (3), Buuri and Igembe Central (1) case each.

In Isiolo all the 8 cases are from Isiolo Town. In Embu the 6 cases are from Manyatta (4), Mbeere South and Runyenjes (1) case each. In Kilifi the 6 cases are from Magarini and Malindi (2) cases each, Kaloleni and Kilifi (1) case each.

In Murang’a the 5 cases are from Gatanga (2), Kandara, Kiharu and Maragua (1) case each. In Nyandarua all the 5 cases are from Ol Kalou. In Trans Nzoia the 5 cases are from Cherangany Kwanza (2).

In Laikipia all the 4 cases are from Laikipia East. In Nyeń the 4 cases are from Kieni East, Nyeri Central, Nyeri South and Tetu (1) case each. In Uasin Gishu the three cases are from Ainabkoi, Kesses and Turbo (1) case each while in Vihiga the three cases are all from Vihiga.

The two cases in Baringo are all from Baringo Central; the 2 cases in Kericho are all from Belgut; the two cases in Kitui are all from Kitui Central; the 2 cases in Mandera are all from Mandera East; the two cases in Nandi are from Chesumei and Nandi Hills (1) case each and the two cases in Narok are all from Narok North.

The case in Elgeyo Marakwet is from Keiyo North; the case in Garissa is from Dadaab; the case in Kakamega is from Likuyani; the case in Kirinyaga is from Kirinyaga Central; the case in Kisii is from Kitutu Chache South; the case in Siaya is from Rarieda; the case in Taita Taveta is from Voi; the case in Tana River is from Bura and the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Igambang’ombe.
