Kenyas COVID positivity rate at 7.4pc, 953K people vaccinated

A total of 953,954 persons have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease in Kenya.

A statement from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said out of these, 289,766 are aged 58 years and above; 163,976 are health workers; 150,203 are teachers; 80,665 are security officers while 269,344 are in the ‘Others’ category.

On Sunday, the ministry reported that 324 people tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 4,392 tested in the last 24 hours.

Kenya’s latest positivity rate is now 7.4percent. From the cases 298 are Kenyans while 26 are foreigners. 223 are males and 101 females.

The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 91 years. Total confirmed positive cases are now 168,432 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,781,426.

1o deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, two having occurred in the last 24 hours while 8 are late deaths reported after conducting a facility record audit within the last one month. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,059.

New deaths by age; 0-9 years (o), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (0), 40-49 years (2), 50-59 years (1), 60 years and above (7).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (54), 10-19 years (21), 20-29 (106), 30-39 years (251), 40-49 years (388), 50-59 years (646), 60 years and above (1,593).

A total of 1,084 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,751 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care Program.

121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 of whom are on ventilatory support and 68 on supplementary oxygen. 28 patients are on observation.

Another 86 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 of them in general wards and 7 in High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of county distribution of the new cases, Kiambu is leading with 84 cases followed by Nairobi 68 cases, Homa Bay 28, Mombasa 27, Kisii 19, Nyeri 17, Kilifi 13, Isiolo and Meru 7 cases each, Kisumu and Uasin Gishu 6 cases each, Kitui, Laikipia, Migori and Murang’a 4 cases each, Narok and Nakuru 3 cases each, Machakos, Trans Nzoia, Turkana and Nandi 2 cases each, Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Kajiado, Kakamega, Nyandarua, Siaya, Taita Taveta and Tharaka Nithi 1.

In terms of sub county distribution; the 84 cases in Kiambu are from Thika (70), Kiambaa and Ruiru (4) cases each, Kabete (3), Gatundu South, Juja and Kiambu Town (1) case each.

In Nairobi the 68 cases are from Kamukunji and Kibra (6) cases each, Kasarani, Langaü, S@rehe and Westlands (5) cases each, Dagorett! North, Embakasi West, Makadara, Mathare and Ruaraka (4) caes each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South and Roysambu (3) cases each, Embakasi North and Embakasi East
(2) cases each.

In Homa Bay the 28 cases are from Homa Bay Town (18), Karachuonyo (6), Mbita (3) and Ndhiwa (1).

In Mombasa the 27 cases are from Mviu (11), Jomvu (5), Changamwe and Nyali (4) cases each, Kisauni (1). In Kisii the 19 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (12), Nyaribari Chache (7).

In Nyeri the 17 cases are from Nyeri Central (17), Mathira East (2), Kieni West (1). In Kilifi the 13 cases are from Malindi (9), Kilifi North (3), Magarini (1). In Isiolo all the 7 cases are from Isiolo Town.

In Meru the 7 cases are fam Igembe North and Imenti Central (2) cases each, Buuri, Imenti North and Imenti South (1) case each. In Kisumu the 6 cases are from Kisumu Central (3), Kisumu East, Nyando and Nyakach (1) case each. In Uasin Gishu all the ó cases are from Kapseret.

The 4 cases in Kitui are from Mwingi Central, the 4 cases in Laikipia are fam Laikipia East, the 4 cases in Migori are from Rongo and Suna East (2) cases each and the 4 cases in Murang’a are from Kiharu (2), Murang’a South and Mathioya (1) case each.

In Narok the 3 cases are from Narok East, Narok North and Transmara West (1) case each, while in Nakuru the 3 cases are from Naivasha.

The 2 cases in Machakos are from Athi River and Kalama (1) case each, the 2 cases in Trans Nzoia are from Cherangany and Kwanza (1) case each, the 2 cases in Turkana are from Turkana Central while the 2 cases in Nandi are from Mosop and Nandi Hills (1) case each.

The case in Baringo is from Baringo Central, the case in Bomet is from Chepalungu, the case in Bungoma is from Bumula, the case in Busia is from Matayos, the case in Elgeyo Marakwet is from Keiyo North, the case in Embu is from Manyatta, the case in Kajiado is from Kajiado East, the case in Kakamega is from Malava, the case in Nyandarua is from Kipipiri, the case in Siaya is from Ugenya, the case in Yaita Taveta is from Wundanyi and the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Chuka.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (15), 10-19 years (19), 20-29 years (33), 30-39 (68) 40-49 (76) 50-59 (37) 60 years and above (48).

On Sunday, 85 patients were reported to have recovered from the disease: 53 from the Home Based and Isolation Care, while 32 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now sand at 114,537 of whom 83,216 are from Home Based Care and Isolation, while 31,321 are from various health facilities countrywide.
