9yr old boy dies of a dog bite in Muranga

Shock and grief engulfed a family at Yamugwe village in Murang’a County after their 9 year old boy died as a result of a single dog bite on the arm.

According to the family, the boy was not given proper treatment at the initial stage and its the treatment that went wrong they say, robbing them of a son with a promising future.

According to Jeremy Njoroge’s family, the 9 year old was at a neighbour’s playing when the he was bitten by the dog.

Joyce Kabura, the dog owner, promptly took Jeremy to a private clinic at Githagara shopping centre where he was supposedly treated and discharged.

His grandfather, Mwangi Macharia however got concerned when a few days later, the boy complained of sharp pains on his neck and shoulders.

He massaged the grandson but his health deteriorated sharply even as he began to display unusual behavior including refusing to climb down a tree.

Bereaved grandmother Nancy Wanjiru sought help in another hospital but was eventually referred to Muranga Level 5 hospital.

It was there that it was reportedly discovered that Jeremy was not given the proper injection soon after the dog bite.

Three days ago, the 9 year old succumbed to his illness, leaving behind a grandmother who raised him up since he was only a year old in deep pain.

Attempts to reach the doctor at Githagara shopping Centre where the boy was taken after the dog bite were futile as the clinic’s doors remained shut.
