Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti says missing Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen was tortured before he was murdered and his body dumped in an underground water tank.
Mr. Kinoti, who led a team of detectives into the home of Cohen that led to the discovery of his decomposed body in his own compound said Cohen’s body had been tied up.
“It is a gruesome murder, they took their time to kill innocent Cohen,” said Mr. Kinoti. “He was bound; legs, hands and neck before he was murdered and then they hid him in an underground water tank. They took their time.”
Two people are in custody over the murder. Cohen’s wife Sarah Wairimu was arrested on August 28 and interrogated at the DCI headquarters. On Thursday this week, Sarah Wairimu was again arraigned in court to face murder charges but did not take plea.
Court ordered she undergoes a mental assessment.
Mr. Kinoti, who seemed disturbed by the discovery could not understand why someone could carry out such an act.
“These people are heartless, absolutely heartless. If it’s money or even domestic strive, can;t move anybody to move to that extent,” he said while adding that as a detective, he is used to seeing such incidences.
The DCI said they secured the home immediately Mr. Cohen, 71, was reported missing something he said was “instinctive.”
“From the onset when this matter was reported to us, I immediately ordered this place be preserved as a scene of crime. We knew reasons why instinctively we had to preserve it as a scene of crime,” he told the media adding that he was killed .
“We never wanted to leave anything to chance, widened out net to make sure this crime is not covered at all. There is no perfect crime.”
Mr. Cohen’s family, according to Mr. Kinoti, have positively identified his body.
