Aaron Cheruiyot sworn in as Kericho Senator

Aaron Cheruiyot has been sworn as the new Kericho Senator.

Cheruiyot was sworn in Tuesday afternoon by the Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro at the Senate Chambers.

Cheruiyot, of the Jubilee Alliance Party, won the hotly contested senatorial by-election in Kericho after defeating KANU’s Paul Sang in last week’s mini-poll.

He garnered 109,358 votes against Sang’s 56,307 votes. Daniel Tonui of New Vision Party (NVP) came third with 772 votes.

The win makes Cheruiyot, 31, the second Senator for Kericho, taking over from Charles Keter who was appointed Energy Cabinet Secretary in December last year.

At the same time, Willy Mtengo of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was sworn in Tuesady afternoon as the new Malindi Member of Parliament effectively filling the position left vacant by Dan Kazungu who was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Mining.

Mtengo garnered 15,582 votes against Jubilee’s Philip Charo’s 9,243.
