Ababu Namwamba Quits Parliamentary Duties

In a statement, Ababu said that he will seek leave from attending all House sessions as well as participating in various activities of House committees.

Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba has sought to be excused from all his parliamentary duties.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Ababu said he will seek leave from attending all House sessions as well as participating in various activities of House committees.

“To affirm my unequivocal support for the historic anti-corruption drive initiated by his Excellency the President in his State of The Nation Address 2015, I hereby seek your permission to be excused from all my parliamentary duties pending conclusion of the said probe,” read the statement in part.

Among the roles that the ODM Secretary General has asked to be excused from are participation in activities of the House Committee on Administration and National Security, engagement in any activities of the suspected Public Accounts Committee and participating in any other business of the House and its committees

Mr Namwamba also stated that he has copied the letter to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission in a bid to show his willingness and readiness to share with them all information submitted to the Powers and Privileges Committee.

Namwamba was suspended as the chair of the PAC following accusations that he took a bribe to water down a report touching on alleged misappropriation of funds at the Office of the President.
