Ababu Namwamba Suspended from Parliamentary Duties

The suspension follows an apparent defiance by the Budalangi MP to apologise for levelling unsubstantiated graft allegations against members of the defunct Parliamentary Accounts Committee.

Namwamba said he cannot apologise for the allegations he made, saying he was helping the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) with investigations into corruption at the committee.

The ODM secretary general claimed that former Defence Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo bribed members of the committee to water down the report on the misappropriation of funds at the office of the President.

The numerous corruption allegations rocking PAC have led to its disbandment, with five of its members being excluded from leadership roles in parliamentary committees.

DOCTOR REPORT

Namwamba was accused of receiving a bribe to doctor an investigative report into alleged misuse of public funds at the office of the president, allegations that he vehemently denied.

In his defence, the Budalangi legislature had turned the heat on his committee members accusing them of fixing him in a non-existent corruption scandal when they are the ones who were implicated in the under-dealings.

Three of the committee members have since apologised for making unsubstantiated graft allegations against Namwamba.

The three are Kesses MP James Bett, Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga and Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama.
