Abagusii elders exude confidence in CJ nominee

Elders from the Abagusii Community under the Abagusii Culture and Development Council banner have applauded Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for nominating Justice David Kenani Maraga to the post of Chief Justice.

The elders heaped praise on the new Chief Justice nominee on behalf of the Abagusii community, saying that he fits the bill to lead the Kenyan Judiciary.

JSC also got blessings from the elders for exhibiting integrity and impartiality in the selection process.

This comes as Justice Maraga awaits President Kenyatta’s nod and later vetting by the National Assembly before being formally appointed.

Speaking at their offices in the outskirts of Kisii Town Friday, September 23, the elders led by their chairman, Matundura Araka, expressed confidence in Justice Maraga and implored him to tackle the issue of cases backlog once he gets into office.

Justice Maraga is the JSC’s choice to inherit Dr Willy Mutunga as the country’s top judge after the latter opted for early retirement.

Nyamira Governor, John Nyagarama, also congratulated Justice Maraga on his nomination. Nyagarama said he knew Maraga from his youthful days as a hardworking, honest person.

He referred to the CJ nominee as a ‘staunch believer in God and SDA, Seventh Day Adventist, Church.’

The Governor also commended the JSC selection panel for settling on Justice Maraga.

Nyamira County Chamber of Commerce chairperson, Joseph Gesora, expressed his trust in Justice Maraga to do a good job, noting that he grew up in a humble background and has a vast experience in the legal profession.
