Five men from separate families in Malaene village in Igembe Central were abducted Thursday night by an armed group of men, who brutally beat them before ordering their victims to relieve themselves – and eat, drink the waste.

The victims, who were abducted at around 8:00 pm, were abandoned near the Meru National Park with serious injuries.

One of them is still hospitalised at Laare Maternity Health Center, whereas the other four were treated and discharged.

According to one of the victims, Mr Josphat Mugira, he, his colleagues and boss were ambushed by men armed with blunt objects on motorbikes when they were going home.

The aggressors then ordered Mugira and his colleagues to follow them to Kiruyu village where the victims were forced to undress – and thereafter beaten, with the abductors claiming that their victims were working closely with tycoons in the region to grab parcels of land.

The kidnappers also squeezed their victims’ private parts before abandoning them.

A medical officer at Laare Maternity Health Center, Dr Mithika Ntongai, said one of the victims, Gerald Kimathi, 37, had rib injuries that resulted in him coughing up blood.

Mr Kimathi also suffered internal injuries from chest trauma, and his private parts were bruised.

Dr Ntongai said the other four victims, who had suffered bruises and external injuries, were treated and discharged.

Insecurity in Igembe Central Sub-County has been an issue of concern to residents, with Japhet Kathurima. a member of Nyumba Kumi, claiming a middle-aged woman was recently kidnapped and killed in a cattle-rustling incident, which saw her livestock stolen.
