About 2.6m of Kenyans Using Drugs

The report further revealed that 1.2 million Kenyans use alcohol, 1 million people smoke cigarettes, 300,000 chew khat, 90,000 smoke bhang and 20,000 people use heroin.

Interior cabinet secretary Joseph Nkaissery, who graced the function, urged courts to prosecute harshly drug peddlers in the country while the wealth gained through drugs should be confiscated and used to pay for the rehabilitation of drug addicts.

He reiterated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s warning that any county commissioner or chief whose county will be harboring drug barons will be prosecuted, pointing out that there are only four rehabilitation centers in the country hence the need for vigilance at the country’s entry points such as JKIA.
