Kisumu CEC Achie Alai apologises for ‘silly’ comment to journalist

Achie Alai, the Kisumu County Executive for Tourism and Sports, has apologised for referring to questions from journalists as ‘silly’.

On Thursday, the seemingly remorseful CEC held a Press briefing to allay rumours of alleged disrespect of the media over her outburst.

“Let me express my apologies for my remarks yesterday, in reply to a question posed by a journalist at the Press conference at the County Government office.

“My remark was not founded on disrespect nor was it intended to demean the journalist,” Achie Alai said on Thursday.

According to Mrs. Alai, the media have every right to ask questions regarding her and the Governor’s work in Kisumu County.

She concurred with criticism raised after the incident that she should have provided a better response.

The move comes after an altercation with journalists on Wednesday after they asked the CEC why Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o was making frequent trips overseas.

“That gripe needs to stop, it’s silly,” an irate Archie Alai responded, a remark that was later termed as reckless with the Kisumu Journalists Network demanding an apology.
