Act on Intelligence from the Public, Urges Muslim Cleric

Speaking during the Cheche show on Citizen TV this morning, Sheikh Abdi said that some parents have gone to the police to report their children lost or radicalized but they get arrested instead.

He said that there is a general lack of trust for people of the Somali community which he said was unfair.

“The security machinery should trust Kenyans,” said he.

Speaking on youth radicalization through mosques, Sheikh Abdi said that youths are radicalized by “some individuals in some mosques.”

He further blamed marginalization and youth unemployment on the rampant radicalization of youths in the country.

GENERAL YOUTH PROBLEM

However, speaking at the same forum, Asman Kamama, who is the chair Parliamentary committee on security, said that blaming unemployment for the radicalization of Somali youth was wrong, adding that unemployment was a problem for all the youth of the country, not just Somali youth.

“The young man who was killed was an employed lawyer of good repute,” he quipped.

Sheikh Abdi said that radicalization was a global phenomenon, adding that it was not confined to uneducated young people.

Speaking at the same forum, Majority Leader Aden Duale admitted that the political class had failed Kenyans in matters security.

Commenting on the time it took for the Recce Company to get to Garissa for the rescue operation, Mr Kamama said that the security machinery had done their best but much still needed to be done.

He said that they are working on a plan to ensure that help gets to the areas it is intended in between one and a half to two hours.
