Acting IEBC CEO Marjan, 9 others shortlisted to replace Chiloba

Marjan Marjan, the acting chief executive officer at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is among 10 candidates shortlisted to replace Ezra Chiloba.

A statement from the commission said 95 people applied for the position and two others sent their documents late.

The top candidates gunning for the CEO post alongside Marjan are Dr. Mabonga Joel Lusweti, Mr. Nakitari Okuku Humprey, Mr. Aura Zephania OKeyo, Eng. Kioko Paul Christoper Kimali and Ms. Kariuki Nancy Wanjiku.

Others are Dr. Murigi Elishiba Muthoni, Dr. Tarus Benjamin Kipchumba, Ms. Mwasi Anne Kerubo and Dr. Khalid Billow.

They are to be interviewed between June 24-26.

Chiloba was sacked in October last year after months of internal wrangles pitting him against IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Marjan who is supposedly Chebukati’s preferred candidate, recently led IEBC officials to Parliament seeking Ksh.1 billion to move its offices out of the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

Appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on May 22, Marjan stated that they want to set up what they termed as ‘Uchaguzi Center’ to house their own offices.

The commission also sought Ksh.89million for the maintenance of the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kit as well as the Biometric Voter Registration register whose review is two years late.

IEBC also wants Ksh.100million to hire a consultant to audit its technology, Ksh.29million for a data centre and a further Ksh.24million for internet.
