Activist Boniface Mwangi says he wont vote to protest police brutality

Activist and politician Boniface Mwangi has said that he will not take part in Thursday’s repeat poll to protest police brutality saying he has no respect “for a government that disregards the very constitution it swore to protect.”

“26th October isn’t Election Day, but Uhuru’s birthday,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Mwangi, who has been relentless on his quest to challenge the status quo, was injured on Thursday during a protest march against police brutality witnessed during the anti-IEBC demonstrations across the country, says that he will not stop protesting.

“I shall not vote. I shall not vote in an election where innocent women and children have been brutalised by their own government. I shall not vote in an election where the executive attacks the judiciary with cheap insults, while asking us to respect the same courts. I shall not vote in an election where our constitutionally guaranteed civil liberties are gradually being taken away from us,” added Mwangi. “It is obvious that the Jubilee government is changing laws in order to legitimize what will be sham elections.”

Over his attack on Thursday, Mwangi said the police were out to get him. “They wanted me dead, but I am still alive.”
