Activist Files Petition For Release Of Hemed Salim

Omtata filed the petition today in High Court seeking to have Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai as well as Inspector General of Police to release Hemed Salim.

Salim was allegedly arrested during the raid on Masjid Musa in Mombasa on 12th February 2014.

Omtata claims that Hemed’s fundamental rights have been infringed and should therefore be released.

He claims that Hemed has not been produced in court as required by the constitution and hence the need to release him.

The petitioner says the 42 year old Hemed is mentally ill

He is said to have been treated three times at the Port Reiz Hospital.

He was repairing electricity at the mosque when he was arrested.

Reports attributed to the police say Salim was found with a gun.

The case will be heard on Friday.
