Police officer commits suicide in Migori

An Administration Police officer attached to Othoro Police Post in Suna East sub-county, Migori County, has committed suicide.

The body of the officer was found within Ogwedhi market center several hours after he had disappeared from his house on Tuesday night.

Area chief Wilis Ogwada said the AP officer, who was part of the security team assigned to escort election material in the just concluded Migori senatorial by-election, hang himself with a piece of rope from a tree branch.

Mr. Ogwada said they are yet to establish why the officer took his own life, however, he noted that the cop exuded slight symptoms of mental illness on Tuesday and was taken to St. Joseph Omboo Mission Hospital by his wife alongside another police officer. He was treated with malaria and discharged.

However, after he was taken home he disappeared later in the night, leaving behind his wife and child.

The wife and fellow police officers searched for him during the night before his body was found on Wednesday morning hanging from a tree.

His body has since been moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
