AG To Hand Over Crucial Documents To Swiss Govt

The AG says currently, there are five live cases being probed with the help of the Swiss government.

Speaking this morning, the Attorney General said Kenya will hand over over dozens of boxes of files requested by the Swiss government to help in the probe of the scandals.

Muigai also added that Kenya has been working with Switzerland in a bid to arrest and charge those behind shadowy Anglo Leasing type firms that saw the government lose billions of shillings through dubious contracts.

This comes just two days after businessman Deepak Kamani moved to court to stop the Attorney General from releasing any information, documents or reports to the Swiss Government probing the Anglo-Leasing related scandal.

Deepak alongside Chamanlal Kamani and Rashmi Kamani are seeking to stop the Swiss Federal Attorney’s office from obtaining information following their request for legal assistance in criminal matters dated 3rd June 2014.

The three who have been adversely mentioned in the Anglo-Leasing scandal are accused of among other things money laundering.

Mr Kamani and Mr Perera are among individuals named as architects of 17 Anglo Leasing contracts in the Public Accounts Committee’s Special Audit on Procurement of Passport Issuing Equipment report that Parliament adopted in 2006.

The matter before Justice Isaac Lenaola is set for hearing on 5th August 2014.
