Agony as four reportedly die following medics’ strike

Four people are reported to have died Tuesday morning following the ongoing doctors’ and nurses’ strike that started Monday, December 5.

Two patients reportedly died at Busia’s Port Victoria Hospital after they  were left unattended while another one died at the Busia Referral Hospital. The fourth patient reportedly died for lack of essential drugs at the Kinango Hospital in Kwale County.

However, no official communication from the hospitals on whether the deaths were strike-related.

Doctors and nurses downed their tools on Monday, December 5 after medics accused the government of failing to respect a Collective Bargaining Agreement they had signed with the two unions; the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN).
