Agony as needle is lodged in woman’s private parts after botched operation

An 18-year-old woman from Bungoma County is currently undergoing a surgical procedure to remove a needle which broke off in her private parts.

The surgical needle broke off in Amacline Amunga’s private parts when she was being sewn up with dissolvable stitches after giving birth at Namwacha dispensary two weeks ago.

According to Jael Sifuna, the woman’s mother, Amunga was referred to the Bungoma Referral Hospital on May 10 after the botched attempt to stitch her perineum.

Ms Sifuna said Bungoma Referral Hospital administrators told her they could not perform a needle removal procedure on Ms Amunga immediately because the facility did not have the necessary equipment to facilitate the procedure.

Ms Sifuna’s persistence saw the hospital schedule Ms Amunga’s surgical operation for Wednesday, May 23.

“Ms Amunga had been wheeled to the operating theater at 7:30am Wednesday. As we speak, she is still in the operating room,” Radio Citizen reporter Jimmy Simiyu told Citizen Digital on phone at 3:40pm Wednesday.

Bungoma County Health executive, Anthony Walela refused to comment on the matter.
