Agony for Muranga family as three children die in house fire

A family from Maragua sub-county, Murang’a County, is reeling from the pain and shock of losing all their three children who burnt to death after a fire broke out in their house.

One of the three children reportedly tried lighting a traditional kerosene lamp, koroboi, in the house before the fire caught a blanket and spread to the mattress sparking a fierce inferno that consumed them alive.

The children were aged four, two-and-half while the other was only six months old. They had been left alone in the house as their mother went to a nearby river to fetch water.

Neighbours, who were alerted by heavy smoke billowing from the house, rushed to the scene only to find the children had passed out.

Two of the three male children were declared dead on the spot while the other succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Kenyatta Hospital.

The mother of the deceased sustained minor fire burns as she tried to get into the house.
