Agriculture PS bodyguard, driver attacked, gun stolen

Two officers, a driver and a bodyguard attached to Agriculture Principal Secretary Dr. Richard Lesiyampe escaped death narrowly after they were attacked by bandits on the Suguta/Marmar-Rumuruti road on Sunday last night.

Driver Paul Mwangi and police officer Lelesit Mbaiyu, were on their way from Maralal where they had traveled for official duty before they were ambushed at 7pm near Rumuruti. The PS was not in the car.

“The bandits roughed up the officers and stole from them unknown amount of money, their telephone sets and personal items. They also escaped with the police officer’s pistol” read part of a letter sent by the ministry concerning the attack.

The officers were rescued by Samburu governor’s security team who were driving on the road.
