How Emirates crew reacted during Miguna standoff

When you think of cabin crew, you probably think they are paid to practically tour the world for free and every flight is just full of joy.

But while that may be the case, Monday night’s drama involving politician Miguna Miguna going berserk as police officers literally dragged him into a plane brought into focus the kind of pressure cabin crew are usually under.

But for all the drama and hysteria, a few noticed just how calm the crew of Emirates EK 722 was as Miguna grounded the plane for an hour and a half during the Mexican standoff.

The flight attendants were probably preparing for another “normal” flight when they were forced to remain grounded as they waited for an extra passenger, one that would test their training to the core and make them go viral.

So, a flight that was supposed to depart at 10:45pm Monday night ended up taking off at 12:05am on Tuesday morning, without the said passenger.

What happened in between the two time instances, as captured on camera, was messy, loud, and sometimes violent; but the flight crew remained calm.

While there was a female crew who took off just seconds before Miguna was shoved into the plane screaming “I am not going,” the rest all watched the proceedings calmly not once betraying their emotions.

The star of the night was without a doubt the male crew who did not flinch even as Miguna slapped the body of the plane in anger and even turned to him and said; “My friend, I am not going, you cannot take me out of my country by force…” but he offered him nothing but a blank stare as he continues with his duties.

Willing to bet that the crew, like many others, have encountered more stressful situations but none where a man is dragged into a plane screaming; “I am not going, kill me…”

Throughout the entire scuffle, the hostesses seem so relaxed and composed, with one of them even picking up the telecom inside the plane to communicate to someone on the receiving end.

So next time you write on your CV that you work best under pressure, just know that you will probably never have the same experience as the Emirates crew.
