AK-47 rifle recovered in foiled Nakuru robbery

Police in Nakuru on Tuesday morning recovered an AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition following a foiled robbery at Soilo junction along Nakuru – Eldoret highway.

Confirming the incident, Rongai sub county administration police commandant, Lameck Maragia, said that two robbers riding on a motorbike accosted a truck driver and his conductor who were returning to Bunda factory after delivering stock outside.

He added that one of the robbers drew an AK-47 rifle from a bag and attempted to shoot the truck crew but the conductor quickly attacked him and managed to grab the rifle from him while the driver knocked down his accomplice as he attempted to speed off on the motorbike.

Maragia noted that police and officers from the KK Security Group responded swiftly and condoned off the area while another team of police officers pursued the two robbers who fled on foot.

The police commandant noted that the two have been behind a series of robberies in the area.

On two occasions, drivers from Bunda cake have lost cash to robbers, with the recent incident taking place in March this year where armed robbers made away with Sh150,000 at the Njoro turn off.

Charles Ochieng, a supervisor with KK Security Group, said that the guard on duty at the main gate raised alarm immediately after he noticed the two robbers confronting the truck crew.

Ten days ago, two suspected robbers were shot dead near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi after their attempt to carjack a motorist failed.
