The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner, Roselyn Akombe, has distanced herself from screenshots of WhatsApp messages doing rounds in social media purporting that she has been communicating with politicians.

Through a statement to media houses, the commissioner insists that the messages are false and do not represent her views, adding that she is an impartial public servant.

According to Akombe, this is not the first time that such allegations have been levelled against her. She has urged Kenyans not to fall prey to fake news and be responsible with information they share with friends and families.

“I believe this is part of an elaborate and concerted attempt to frustrate the work of IEBC by smearing commissioners to negatively impact our preparations for the fresh presidential election,” said Dr. Akombe.

Dr. Akombe is now calling on investigative agencies to probe and prosecute all the perpetrators behind what she terms “malicious elements”.
