Akorino members up in arms after students sent home for wearing turbans

Members of the Akorino sect are up in arms after more than six students were sent home from national schools for declining to take off their turbans.

Speaking in Runyenjes during the annual General Conference of Akorino Churches Assembly, Secretary General Abraham Macharia said the students are yet to resume their studies, since the school administrations insisted that they must comply before they are re-admitted.

At the same time, the church lamented that county and national governments have sidelined them, noting that they were not involved when the committee was selecting Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.

Mr Macharia said that the on going discrimination of the church should stop, adding that it was the high time for the constitution to be implemented equally.

The church appealed to the government to help speed up investigations into the institutions that have discriminated against students for being associated with the sect, stating their children deserve the right to education irrespective of their beliefs.
