At least nine people have been killed by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Pandanguo area of Lamu County following an early morning raid. Reports from the area local chief indicate that the nine were brutally beheaded by Al Shabaab.

The suspects are said to have trespassed into the country through the porous Kenya-Somalia border.

This comes after Al Shabaab militants engaged police in heavy gunfire on Wednesday, July 5 in an attempted attack on a police post in the Coastal county.

The late Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaisserry, had faulted the increased  Al Shabaab attacks on locals who might be conspiring with terrorists.

More than 39 people have so far lost their lives in just two months, June and July, as a cause of Al Shabaab attacks.
