Alarm after pride of lions spotted in Ongata Rongai

A pride of lions was spotted in Ongata Rongai on Wednesday sending Kenyans online into a frenzy.

The lions were seen walking past the Africa Nazarene University in Tuala area.

A Twitter user under the name @africanquuenmum shared the photos below:

The tweet caught the attention of KWS who said: “Thank you for the tag. Our team was notified about it. In the event of further sightings, please call our toll free line 0800 597000.”

The lions were later said to have been spotted around Karen C area in Nairobi.

Media personality Julie Gichuru said on Twitter: “Someone spotted lions on the outskirts of Nairobi/Ongata Rongai… Majestic! If you are in the area do be careful good people, don’t go for a random walk.”

However, Ochanji Samuel expressed concern saying: “This is not some cool Nairobi novelty. Someone’s gonna get hurt if lions can sneak out of the park.”

Nick Mwai added: “Look carefully KWS, they could be looking for food.”
Kenya Wildlife Service Strategic Communication Specialist Paul Udoto later told journalists that the lions had been guided back into the Nairobi National Park.

Three years ago, it was reported that 6 lions had escaped from the Nairobi National Park.
