Alarm over rise in peddling of bhang in slums

The Embu County provincial administration has raised alarm over the rise in bhang peddling within slums in the region.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Embu Deputy County Commissioner Omari Benja said the activity was one the rise, with suppliers targeting youths who in turn engage in crime to service their habit.

Benja called on the peddlers to abandon the illegal business and seek alternative means of earning a living, and sounded a warning that those found culpable will face the full force of the law.

“The president’s directive to destroy illicit liquor still stands and we will continue with the operation until we emancipate our nation from the vices,” he said.

The commissioner further appealed to the residents to volunteer any pertinent information regarding the culprits, assuring them that the security agents are on the cases and the perpetrators would soon be nabbed.
