Alarm over rising cases of child molestation in Rongo

The Rongo district children office is now raising concern over the increased cases of molestation in Rongo.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Rongo district children officer Mr Nyatigi Nyangonga said at least three cases of molestation are reported to his office every month, a number he says is worrying.

While linking the ballooning cases of molestation to poverty and lack of parental guidance, Nyangonga has called on the public to join hands to curb the vice, adding that most of the children who are molested are lured by material things.

Mr Nyatigi also added that unstable marriages in the society have led to frustration among the children who end up in the hands of older people who eventually use them as sex toys.

The children officer said there is need for a joint effort by the public to weed out such vices from the society.

His remarks come barely two days after a woman was found molesting a 7-year-old boy in Rongo Town.

According to Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda, the woman who is between the age of 17 to 19 is still under police custody and is expected to be arraigned before in court today (Wednesday).

Kisaka said the child told the police that the woman had lured him.
