Alcoholic Nyeri man goes missing after digging grave

A young man from Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County has shocked residents by digging his own grave after failing to control his drinking habit, even as the crackdown on illicit brews continues.

Joshua Kariuki, 25, is said to have decided to dig his own grave because he wanted to follow his other brother who died five years ago after being hit by a vehicle while drunk.

Speaking on his behalf, his elder brother Jacob Maina, however, laments that Kariuki has since disappeared and his whereabouts are not known for the last couple of days.

Kariuki’s wife left hi after his behavior became unbearable and he is said to be constantly at loggerheads with other family members due to his violent nature whenever drunk.

Maina added that Karuiki had also tried to commit suicide sometime back but got saved by family members.

He welcomed the presidential directive of rounding up all alcohol addicts for rehabilitation as the only way to save their disillusioned brother, who has given up hope of ever coming out of the addiction as his state of affairs continue to deteriorate with every sip of the killer brews.
