Alfred Keter To Appear Before EACC

The EACC summoned the MP to probe the matter after he was caught on camera threatening and abusing officials at the weighbridge and over claims that the weighbridge officials were demanding for a bribe to release a truck belonging to URP nominated Mp Sunjeev Birdi which had been impounded for lack of a permit.

On Monday, Keter remained adamant saying that will not apologize over the incident since he was fighting bribery demands by the officers.

Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Keter and Birdi said that their actions were misinterpreted and all they were trying to do was fight corruption.

Residents and a section of leaders in Nandi have since condemned the MP’s action in which he was filmed insulting staff and threatening them.

A section of Nandi residents have also issued a 14-day ultimatum to the lawmaker to apologize or commence procedures to recall him.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday distanced himself from Keter who is seen in the footage claiming that statehouse comptroller Lawrence Lenayapa had called the weighbridge staff to prevail upon them to release the truck.

President Kenyatta also recommended legal action against Keter and commended the staff for standing up against corruption.

On Monday, Keter and Birdi recorded statements at Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi over the incident.
