All Kenyan presidents were hustlers, give us a manifesto instead- Raila says

ODM leader Raila Odinga took a swipe at Deputy President William Ruto’s 2020 presidential ambitions during a visit to Nominated MP Wilson Sossion’s home on Saturday.

Raila scoffed at the term “hustler” which the Ruto camp has been using to endear themselves to the electorate.

He said the term hustler is nothing new to Kenyan politics as all the Kenyan presidents started from very humble backgrounds.

He gave the example of Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, his successor Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki who had all began from very humble starts.

“I’m the son of the late Jaramogi Odinga, his father was a peasant, look at all the Kenyan presidents, Kenyatta, Kibaki and Moi, they all began poor, they were all hustlers,” Raila said.

The former Prime Minister added that focus for all presidential hopefuls should be on what they plan to do for Kenyans.

“We should not be telling Kenyans about poverty, our politics should be about our manifestos and what we will do for the people of Kenya”.

At the same time, Raila seized the opportunity to drum up support for the BBI, saying it will ensure that Kenyans receive a larger chunk of Kenyas revenue cake.

Pro-BBI politicians have said the report is likely to give the nod on a proposed increment of revenue to counties from the current 15% to 35%.

Raila had joined several other leaders to celebrate the admission of Sossion’s daughter to the bar.

The nominated MPs daughter has become the first lawyer in Motigo village.
