All of Kenyas land records to be digitised by 2022: CS Karoney

Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney has reaffirmed her commitment to ensure land records are digitised by the end of 2022.

Speaking during the closure of a one-week training of Ministry staff at the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) on Friday, Karoney said that the digitisation of land records will ensure accountability, transparency and efficiency in land administration and management.

“The digitisation programme is meant to help improve the quality of service offered to Kenyans, and make it easy for customers to conduct land transactions.

“His Excellency the President is keen to ensure that the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning is fully digital by 2022, and we are committed to ensure this is achieved,” she stated.

As part of the decentralisation programme, Karoney said the Ministry will take all land services closer to citizens.

“There is no need for customers from Kitale to come all the way to Nairobi to access their files or conduct land transactions. All land services should be available to Kenyans in their counties.”

“In the Strategic Plan (2020-2024), we have highlighted four key programmes that, once implemented, will streamline the land sector and change how land transactions are conducted,” she said.

The event saw 134 trainees receive certificates after completing their training on geospatial mapping technologies.

The event was also attended by FAO Representative to Kenya Carla Mucavi and RCMRD Director General Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza.
