Allow use of ID cards, IEBC voter register, ODM elections board urged

ODM party’s National Elections Board has been petitioned to allow the use of national ID cards and IEBC voters’ register in its forthcoming nominations.

Siaya County Assembly Member for Central Alego Ward Mr Leonard Oriaro said that the party’s elections board should allow party members to use IDs and the voters’ register in the nominations, to give all ODM supporters an opportunity to participate in the party primaries.

Oriaro argues that as things stand currently, a lot of people would be locked out of the nomination exercise because very many people did not register during the recently conducted ODM party’s online registration exercise.

He warned that if not handled carefully, the exercise could deny ODM supporters an opportunity to elect leaders of their choice and this, he said, may even lead to voter apathy come the 8th August 2017 General Election.

Oriaro was speaking at Ahaya dam, Aduwa village in his Central Alego ward where he pleaded with the county government to hasten the process of verifying bursary application forms to be able to release the funds to schools.

He stated that there is no need of delaying the issuance of the bursaries because the county assembly had already passed the county’s supplementary budget, which approved Ksh75 million bursary allocation.

Oriaro, who is also the chairman of the county assembly’s oversight and implementation committee, has also pleaded with school heads to stop the tendency of sending students with schools fees arrears home because the monies will obviously be paid once the process has been finalised.
