Visa, passport appointments for U.S. embassy in Nairobi still cancelled

The American embassy in Nairobi has announced that all consular appointments for Wednesday have been cancelled.

This is the third time this week that the embassy has cancelled appointments over what it termed as systems damage.

“Technicians are continuing to work around the clock to repair damaged consular systems to ensure all visa, passport, and American citizen services can be processed..fully without further inconvenience and delays for our customers,” a statement from the embassy reads.

Appointments were also cancelled on Monday and Tuesday with the embassy saying: “We are currently unable to process visa, passport, and American Citizen Services applications.”

A message on the embassy’s official Twitter page said the damage was inflicted on consular systems from “power surge and outage.”

Kenya Power later issued a statement clarifying that the power outage was caused by a faulty cable inside the embassy and not a blackout.

Those affected by the cancellations have been urged to call the visa call center using the number 020 764 0121.

The U.S. embassy has however affirmed that all cancelled appointments will be rescheduled.
