Andear Mwangi: Drama as Nigerian man tries to take body from Umash

There was drama at Umash Funeral Home in Nairobi after a Nigerian man tried to take the body of his wife, Andear Mwangi, without her family’s consent.

The dispute over the burial rites and the deceased’s children has seen the two parties go to court.

“There is nobody that is buried by somebody unknown when the parents and relatives are not aware,” Lydia Mwathathi, the deceased’s mother said.

35-year-old Andear Mwangi passed away on the September 22 this year at Nairobi South Hospital after suffering from a liver condition.

She had been living with Charles Emedo for 9 years and they had three children from the union.

“They have stayed together for some time but they are neither married officially or customary,” said the mother of the deceased.

Andear’s family claims that the grandfather and the uncle to the deceased are working with Emedo to forcefully take the body from them.

On October 23, the deceased family presented the matter in court but Charles Emedo did not appear claiming that his lawyers advised him against it.

The two parties are now set to attend the court hearing on December 5 with police saying the body will not be moved until the court matter is heard and determined.
