Anger at burial of Judith Mwai, daughter as South B killers yet to be found

Emotions ran high in Kirinyaga during the funeral service for the late Judith Wanjiku Mwai and her daughter Catherine Nyaguthie Mwai.

The 73-year-old and her daughter were found strangled in their home in Golden Estate, South B.

On Wednesday, mourners gathered at the ACK St.Thomas Cathedral in Kerugoya to pay their last respects.

Leaders who attended the burial ceremony condemned the killing of the two, questioning why police are yet to apprehend any suspects.

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki, who is a relative to the family, said the family of John Mwai will not rest until justice is served.

“Arrest the suspects the way you arrest criminals once a foreigner is killed,” Muthomi said as he took a swipe at Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Mr. Mwai, husband to the deceased Judith Mwai, remains hospitalised as he has been ailing for over 10 years.

“Its very sad…Robert Muriithi, who is the son has been left to take care of his ailing father,” one of the relatives said as she broke into tears.

Reverend Mary Wanderi from Peoples Church Kerugoya, who is also a close relative of the deceased, said women in Kirinyaga county will pray for 21 days for justice to prevail.

Her sentiments were echoed by Reverend David Muriuki who added: “I am disappointed that up to now the sinners have not been arrested.”

The two bodies were found tied with sisal ropes around the necks. The bodies were reportedly discovered by a relative who had gone to visit them at their home in Golden Gate.

Police reports indicate that nothing was stolen from the house during the incident.

A report in the Standard newspaper alleged that the killer is believed to have called the police after committing the crime.

”Nimeua. Sasa kujeni muniue (I have killed now come and kill me)“ the Standard quoted the female suspect.

It is alleged that she used one of the deceased’s phone to make the call on September 21.
