Angry villagers burn down vehicle after driver hits, kills two in Kisii

Irate residents of Iyabe village in Suneka area on the Kisii-Migori road on Sunday burnt a pickup vehicle after the driver hit and killed two people on a boda boda.

According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the double cabin pickup was being driven by 40-year-old Kelvin Mokaya towards Migori from Suneka.

Upon reaching Iyabe area, the driver reportedly made a U-turn and hit the motorcycle which was headed towards Suneka.

The motorcyclist, 45-year-old George Morara Atinga, and his pillion passenger – Peter Omari, 47 – succumbed to injuries on the spot while the pickup driver escaped unhurt.

Their bodies have since been moved to Kisii Level 6 Hospital mortuary pending autopsy while the vehicle was burnt to a shell by the angry villagers.

During the ensuing fracas, officers from Gesonso Police Station were forced to fire in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd.

Two police officers were injured in the chaos and were also rushed to Kisii Level 6 Hospital.
