Anne Waithera; Kenyan BBC Journalist Dies

She had been battling cancer for the past two years.

Colleagues in the industry says Ms Waithera was one of the most talented Kenyan journalists of her time.

She joined the BBC in 2009 after working for several local TV and radio stations.

Previously, Ms. Waithera had worked for Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV and the Nation Media Group’s Easy FM radio station. Staff at Kenya's leading TV station Citizen TV who worked with her paid tribute to her exploits in the broadast industry during their weekly staff meeting Wednesday.

Ms Waithera was the BBC's first bilingual (English and Swahili) reporter to be appointed to cover news in Ethiopia from her base in the capital Addis Ababa. She reported for both BBC radio and television.

BBC Africa editor Solomon Mugera described her as "a brave, well-organized and talented journalist".

Her death comes less than a fortnight after that of another celebrated BBC journalist, Komla Dumor from Ghana, who passed on at his home in London.
