Another cruise ship docks in Mombasa despite travel advisory

Despite the U.S. government issuing a travel advisory to its citizens last week over what it termed as a security concern is some parts of the country, hundreds of tourists continue to stream to the Kenyan Coast.

On Thursday, January 19, 282 U.S. citizens joined thousands of tourists from across the world who have visited the coastal city.

The tourists aboard MV Nautica Cruiser Ship arrived at the port of Mombasa Thursday morning from Zanzibar before being picked by several buses to visit Shimba Hills, Amboseli, and Malindi among other areas in the region.

According to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Public Relation Manager, Haji Masemo, more cruise ship vessels are expected in Mombasa this year.

Masemo further noted that the construction of the modern crew ship terminal launched recently by Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, at the port is still ongoing and will be completed by July 2017.

A section of stakeholders in the tourism industry led by Chrispinus Juma have expressed their joy following the arrival of the vessel, but urged the government to beef up security so as to attract more visitors in the country.

The crew ship vessel will be heading to Seychelles after Mombasa.
