Another dark day for Kenya as ex-PS, Diplomat dies

The former chairman of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC), Ambassador Bethuel Kiplagat, is dead.

Amb. Kiplagat, 81, died on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Nairobi Hospital at 3am where he had been admitted following a long illness.

Born on November 28, 1936, Kiplagat started his journey to greatness, which saw him as an advocate and peace ambassador from chairing the IGAD Technical Committee on Somali National Reconciliation Conference to leading the Kenya’s special Envoy in the Somali Peace Process.

The late diplomat served under Moi’s regime for over a decade, he was Kenya’s to United Kingdom Ambassador (1981-1983) and Kenya’s envoy to France in (1978-1981) before getting appointed as the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Africa will mourn his death as he was instrumental in conflict and reconciliatory talks.

In 1988-1992 he mediated conflicting parties in Ethiopia, he was part of the taskforce that facilitated the transition of a conflicted Sudan.
