Another money heist: Thugs break into plane, steal Equity Bank cash in Moyale

Three suspected robbers are reported to have made away with unknown amount of money belonging to Equity Bank in Moyale.

According to a police report, an aircraft ferrying money left Nairobi at 10:35am and landed at Odda airstrip almost three hours later.

Three people were on board the aircraft: the pilot, co-pilot and a cash officer from Wells Fargo security company.

Upon arrival, the pilot went to check the fuel level and three strangers emerged from behind the waiting bay.

They were armed with a pistol and ordered him and his team to lay on the ground.

“The other suspects forced the door of the aircraft open and removed two sacks among the three containing an unknown amount of money…” read the report.

The suspects are reported to have used a motorcycle which was parked next to the waiting bay to get away.

The third sack also containing an unknown amount of money was however left inside the aircraft.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects escaped through the fence by cutting through the fence.

It has also emerged that no prior security arrangements had been made by the Equity Bank Manager in regard to the consignment.

No arrest has been made even as police indicate that three people have been interrogated as investigations commence.
