Another school closed after students unrest in Nyando

Otieno Oyoo Secondary School in Nyando has been closed indefinitely.

This follows disquiet amongst the students that began on Friday night.

According to the Principal Solomon Sisuma, they decided to release the students to avert any protests.

Mr. Sisuma said their preliminary probe shows that the students had “academic pressure”.

820 students from Form One to Form Four were released to go home on Saturday morning.

There was however no need for damage control since the boys did not engage in any protests.

“The school management will make decision on when the school will be reopened,” he said.

The students are said to have written notes indicating that they were tired.

Four other schools in Siaya were recently closed after students went on the rampage.

They are Maranda High School, Ngiya Girls High School, Kisumu Girls High School and Maliera Boys Secondary School in Yala.
