The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced the passing of one of their members, Dr. Nira Patel.
According to KMPDU, Dr. Patel, who was a dental surgeon specialized in orthodontics, succumbed to COVID-19 complications.
“We mourn the passing on of Dr. Nira Patel due to COVID-19 complications. A dental surgeon specialized in orthodontics, a mentor to many and was recently bestowed with the life membership of the Kenya Dental Association. Condolences to the family & friends. Dr. Nira Patel becomes latest medical practitioner to succumb to the coronavirus after Dr. Anthony Were, a consultant at the Kenyatta National Hospital and a senior doctor, who died on Friday.
Dr. Were, a nephrologist, is said to have been in Intensive Care Unit, for more than two weeks before succumbing.

Over the last two weeks, the country has lost at least six senior medical officers to COVID-19.
On Friday last week, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union announced the deaths of Dr. Emarah Ashraf, Dr. Vladimir Schukin, Dr. Hudson Inyangala, Dr. Robert Ayisi and Dr. Hudson Alumera, a periodontal surgeon.
