Another Ugunja parliamentary hopeful ditches ODM

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary hopeful in Ugunja has defected to Ford Kenya for fear of botched nominations.

Lawyer Tom Nduku said that he decided to make the move, as he is not convinced that the ODM nomination exercise scheduled for April 5 will be free, fair and transparent.

Mr Nduku was set to face off with the incumbent Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi, to seek the ODM party ticket, but by virtue of his competitor being the ODM Secretary for Political Affairs, the lawyer says he is convinced that the exercise will be designed to favor the incumbent.

“All ODM Party officials seeking political seats were supposed to resign ahead of party primaries but this has not been done. It is obvious that those officials will do anything to ensure they have clinched the party ticket,” argued Mr Nduku.

This comes just a week after another Ugunja Parliamentary aspirant, Mr M. J. Okumu, announced that he will not be vying on an ODM ticket, for fear of botched nominations too.

This has now left only four candidates, including businessman Otieno Alur, Chris Budo and Moi University lecturer, Owino Malele, who are going to battle it out with Wandayi for an  ODM party ticket in the coming party primaries.
