Anthony Maina Mwangi arrested for conning civilian firearm holders, military uniform recovered

One suspect, Anthony Maina Mwangi, has been arrested for allegedly calling civilian firearm holders and instructing them to send money for renewal of their certificates.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mwangi posed as a Chief Firearms Licensing officer and made numerous calls to individuals.

Investigations revealed that Mwangi told the people he called that: “…they should not proceed to the Licensing office due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

This statement raised suspicion as there had been no official communication from the Firearms Licensing Board on the same.

Detectives were alerted and they traced the suspect to Ngong area where he was arrested.

“The detectives also recovered from him a full set of military uniform and the phone numbers that he was using to call the complainants,” the DCI said.
