Anti-IEBC protesters dispersed by police in Kisumu

A contingent of Administration and Regular Police officers in Kisumu have thwarted a bid by residents to take their protests to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices to push for disbandment of the poll body.

Police have blocked all access routes to regional IEBC offices keeping at bay the protesters who were armed with placards and lined-up along the lakeside city streets before proceeding to IEBC offices.

They insist the nine IEBC commissioners must go home to allow a credible poll next year.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has vowed to continue with nationwide anti-IEBC protests until the commissioners give in to its demands and resign.

The supporters claim that the commissioners are compromised and cannot conduct a free and fair poll come 2017.
