Anti-liquor demos held in Nakuru

More than 300 women from Nakuru county backed by legislators Kimani Ngunjiri of Bahati, Nelson Gaichuhie of Subukia and David Gikaria of Nakuru Town East on Friday held a peaceful demonstration in Nakuru in support of the ongoing illicit brews raid.

The demonstrators marched from Railway Grounds to Nyayo Gardens where they addressed the media pledging to support the ongoing operation.

While lauding the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the three MPs said that since the directive was issued, sanity was now being restored in homes.

The Legislators further urged the county government to reciprocate efforts by the national government by ensuring that no brewers are issued with licenses until proper vetting is done.

Ngunjiri also lashed out at Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for failing to form the alcoholics drinks control board despite the county assembly of Nakuru having passed the requisite bill to that effect.

Also present was the Maendeleo ya Wanawake County Chairlady Keziah Ngina who said that women were the greatest beneficiaries of the operation on illicit brews considering that most men and the youth had abandoned their conjugal responsibilities.
