Anti Terrorism Police Intercept Nairobi Mall Attack

The inter-agency counter-terrorism operation is said to have helped botch attacks planned on several high end buildings in the city including an uptown shopping mall.

According to an intelligence website report, “verified intelligence reports show that Kenya Security Intelligence services, Kenya Anti-Terrorism Police, and the Military Intelligence conducted a Counter-Terrorism Operation on the afternoon of March 13th, 2015 against the   Somali militant-terror Islamist group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen.”

During the operation, two terrorists heading to one of Nairobi’s prestigious shopping malls were successfully arrested pre-empting the planning massive terror attack

Military Grade Explosives

The report read: “The Kenya Security Services officers intercepted the 2-cells who were carrying military grade explosive material RDX, ammunition, and electronic devices used in detonation of IED’s.”

It further added that the “bomb they were planning to detonate was a massive bomb whose capability using the combined explosives (RDX-C4 or RDX-TNT) could have produced a blast forty times greater than that of a devastating car-bomb.”

The highly explosive RDX-type explosive material recovered is similar to the one recovered from Iranians charged with terrorism in Kenya and currently serving a jail term.

“Strategic Intelligence Service reports show that the 2 terrorists were cells under Commander Adan Garar who was killed in the late afternoon of March 12th, 2015 in a drone airstrike,” added the report.
